Modern Pentathlon Running is the last event in the Pentathlon. This is a major event, as it gives other athletes one last chance to catch up on points before the end of the Pentathlon.

It's a cross country event, run on uneven terrain or public roads, so not usually in a stadium. The distance is 3 kilometres, or in metres that is 3000. This is the same for both men and womens events.

Completing this event in 10 minutes flat for men is worth 1000 points for the overall Pentathlon and a time of 11 minutes 20 seconds for the women is worth 1000 overall Pentathlon points.

How the starting order is worked out with the running is based on a handicap system. The total points of the four previous events are tallied up and the difference between points is used to calculate their starting order.

The reason it is done like this is for the spectators. As the person who wins the running race is the person who wins the overall Pentathlon. This made it easier for spectators to watch and understand as they could clearly see the winner.
