Modern Pentathlon competitions are held every year. There are four main competitions for the Modern Pentathlete. They are.....

* Olympic Games

* World Championships

* World Cup

* World Tour

The Olympic Games are of course the biggest event for the Modern Pentathlon. Every four years the games are held and while there was a vote to suspend Modern Pentathlon due to its lack of support outside eastern European countries, it has stayed in the program till at least 2012.

The event use to be held over four or five days, but to increase it's commercial appeal, it was packed into one day.

The World Championships are the next biggest event in the Modern Pentathlon calender and it takes place on every non Olympic year. It is open to Men, Women, and Youths. There is also a team relay for the men.

At least 96 men and women compete in the World Championships.

The World Cup is held periodically and started in 1990. This is where the best 32 Pentathletes in the world compete in a final to see who is the winner. Only the best 32 athletes get to go to the final round of the World Cup.

Last but not least, there is the World Tour. This is more for show and to get the Modern Pentathlete out to the public. It's also a good way to support and get more sponsors for the sport.
